The Arts and the SS Columbia Project

Published by RAnderson

Art will be integrated into the restoration process, the Columbia itself, and the visitor experience in various ways. The surviving artworks aboard the Columbia will be restored and the SSCP will commission contemporary artists to create new works of art to replace those that have been lost. Artists will be invited to make works in response to the restoration process, the project, and its impacts to culminate in an exhibition and a publication. When in operation, the vessel will host rotating exhibitions of artworks in her public spaces and her salons will host performances of music and dance, as well as readings by authors and poets. Arts materials available aboard will encourage visitors to sketch and watercolor the same vistas in the Hudson River Valley and New York Harbor that have inspired artists for more than 200 years.
