The Columbia will offer uniquely engaging and enriching educational opportunities, activities, and programming for children, students and visitors of all ages both while under steam and while dockside. The Columbia will provide an unforgettable experiential learning opportunity for over one million students in the tri-state area. As a unique water-borne classroom the Columbia will allow schools and community organizations to extend and enhance their programming in ways that existing educational tools and venues cannot.
Visitors aboard the Columbia will have access to materials enabling them to connect their experience aboard the Columbia with studies in history, geography, art, the sciences, and environmental studies. They will enjoy the wide array of educational opportunities posed by the Hudson River Valley’s rich cultural and ecological resources. Exhibits aboard the Columbia will illuminate the history of the vessel, the Hudson River Valley, and New York Harbor with focuses on steam, the age of mechanization, the Industrial Revolution and its consequent social evolutions, and our changing relationship to the environment.
Visitors of all ages aboard the Columbia will enjoy a uniquely memorable educational experience that no film, photo, or Web site could rival.
