Daily Experience of the Columbia
Following a 10 AM departure from the west side of Manhattan, visitors aboard the restored SS Columbia will be encouraged to visit historic sites, gardens, museums, galleries, and scenic attractions throughout the Valley. Activities aboard the vessel herself include watching the engineers operate the massive antique steam engine, interpretive tours of the vessel, lectures and children’s programs.
At each landing passengers debark the vessel to roam and explore the villages on their own, or join guided tours. They will eat and shop, visit historic sites, and perhaps decide to spend the night, arranging to take the Columbia back to the city the next day. Several destinations on the itinerary could be combined by using Metro North trains to “catch up” to the vessel, or allow one to linger longer and return to the city by train. Visitors returning to New York on the Columbia could view the beautiful scenery from the windows of the dining room, or perhaps enjoy dancing in the ballroom. At 6:30 PM the vessel would again be docked again in New York. Departing passengers will take with them their experiences of the rich beauty and history of the Hudson Valley.
